Farewell to Murmel
Today we let our beloved Murmel fall asleep. We are very sad about her quick departure.
In May 2013, we took our rabbits to the vet for their semi-annual check-up. The doctor told us about a colleague's Dzungarian dwarf hamster that was supposed to become snake food ... but then the snake died of old age and the little hamster got a new chance. Well, actually he was supposed to be passed on to another snake owner. But somehow the doctor couldn't accept the idea. Wouldn't we like to take him? It would be a girl and she would be so sweet.
We thought to ourselves - but of course, what could such a little hamster need?
And let me tell you - a little hamster needs a lot. Lots of space, a big running wheel and a sand bath. I bought a big rodent terrarium where Marble could dig tunnels without end. Two more floors were for the running wheel and for the sand bath.
Murmel loved to dig and play sports in her running wheel. This was only surpassed by her great passion for cob millet. Marble could also do little tricks. She was incredibly smart, learned quickly and was always gentle with us. When I said to her "Marble, turn", she would turn on her own axis.
Marble has become an old lady and accompanied us for almost three years.
Now she has left for a new adventure. Rest gently, little Murmel!
