Vacation with dog at Hotel Schwarz Alm
What do the terms Zwickl, Saphir, Hadmar and Original have in common? Correct, they are beer specialties from the Waldviertel. But they are also room categories at the Hotel Schwarz Alm. This nice detail drew my attention to this hotel when I was looking for my summer vacation. And since dogs are also welcome, the decision was not difficult for me and I booked.
The hotel is located only a few kilometers southwest of Zwettl on a large clearing in the middle of the beautiful Waldviertel. The Schwarz Alm already has a long history behind it, dating back to the 1930s. Most recently, the hotel was renovated in 2016 and expanded with 10 new premium rooms.
I opted for the category "Sapphire", accordingly, the room was also beautifully decorated. Especially the small details like the rotating TV or the own coffee maker I found particularly nice. Every day, two coffee pods were placed in the room and so I could drink my coffee every day quite comfortably on the loggia. Ronja also felt very comfortable in the room. She loved to lie on the loggia and relax and watch the surroundings or just sleep.
The rest of the hotel is also very modern but cozy. Especially nice is the natural swimming biotope, where you can watch dragonflies or wagtails while listening to a constant frog concert. Next to the hotel there is an artificial pond, where dogs can also swim. By the way, dogs are allowed to move freely in the whole hotel except the wellness area.
Since I had optimal weather, I spent most of the time with long walks through the woods. Especially along the Kamp, the wild and romantic river landscape is beautiful and both Ronja and I enjoyed the peace and quiet very much. By the way, the Kamp is with a length of 153 kilometers the longest river in the Waldviertel. A hike through the Höllfall is also recommended, but I saved that for a separate trip. Unfortunately, however, there seem to be a lot of ticks in this area. After each hike I had to check myself and Ronja very carefully and found frighteningly often some ticks.
In summary, the vacation was exactly what I had imagined. Lots of relaxation, pristine nature and a bit of pampering. Especially the peace and quiet did me a lot of good and I was able to really unwind for a few days.
Finally, a few pictures of the hotel and the surrounding area:
