Impressions from the Schönbrunn Zoo
I have exactly two annual tickets. One for the Wiener Linien and one for the Schönbrunn Zoo. The zoo is located in Vienna's 13th district, was founded by the Habsburgs in 1752 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. More than 8,000 animals cavort on an area of 170,000 m² and in 2009, 2011, and 2013 the Schönbrunn Zoo was even voted the best zoo in Europe.
So many animals are naturally a paradise for an animal photographer, so I'm often there. I usually stay with a particular animal for quite a long time and wait for the right moment. Of course, it doesn't always come. Nevertheless, I have taken some beautiful photos over the years.
In the meantime, I have known the zoo for many years, and during this time it has changed again and again. From the Rainforest House, which opened in 2002, to the new enclosure for the polar bears, there is always something new to see. In the same way, new animals move into the zoo all the time, but sometimes some of them disappear again.
Some of the animals are not official residents of the zoo! However, since they are omnipresent in Schönbrunn, they always run in front of the camera :-)
